Exactly as described - fast rolling on dry/hardpack terrain
For me, the width is about right. There are a high number of reports of undersized tire width. Not sure how many cyclists who take to the reviews understand that their inner rim diameter & initial tire pressure during wear-in directly affects the ultimate width of the tire on the bike. For me, it measures about 2.1".Mounting tubeless is about as easy as it gets - all the Vittoria TNT trail tires I've used over the years continue to be some of the most reliable, flat free and robust trail tires I've used. They look good on an all black frame as well.Vittoria describes the Mezcal as a dry terrain tire. I'd say that's right on the money. I ride trails in Phoenix, where the singletrack conditions range from hardpack, loose over hard, to kitty litter to crushed chonk, to sliced shale, to babyheads as well as occasional slick-rock pitches.I'm using the Mezcal as a rear XC tire with a Barzo on the front - mainly due to frame clearance limitations. The Mezcal starts to break down when I do climbs on really loose, deep crushed chonk - tire will spin a bit uphill. But I think almost any low profile tire under about 2.6" is going to spin a bit on conditions like that. Downhill cornering performance could be better, but I wasn't expecting miracles with a fast rolling tire like this - there are always tradeoffs. I have had one minor wipeout on mild kitty litter that I could not explain - other than the fact that I was running the rear Mezcal, which seems to have reduced cornering traction at speed on anything more loose than hardpack. Other than that - it's a very fast rolling XC tire. Run rear, tubeless with rider @ 165lb I run it around 23-24 psi, which is quite low for a tire of this width and have not struck the rim yet; thanks to the thick sidewalls. I don't think I'd see any benefit in going lower than this. The sidewalls appear to be very strong. In fact I switched back to Vittoria TNT tires precisely because I ripped a sidewall on some Maxxis Ikons that ripped like tissue paper on my bog standard ride. This rear Mezcal has been going strong for at least 30 rides in the above-mentioned conditions and shows a number of rock strike spots on the sidewall that would have most likely ripped thinner walls. If you ride mostly flow trails, hardpack, where cornering traction in loose conditions is not the utmost priority - but speed & reliability are priorities, then this is probably a good tire for you.

Best tire for gravel
Set this tire up tubeless and it rides like a dream. Great tire for both front and rear gravel bikes

Not as puncture resistant as I expected
As others have said, this is a good tire for hard-pack conditions. It rolls well and fast and has enough grip in the corners. But I ended up with a major puncture in the tread section that the goo couldn't seal up. I didn't know it of course as I headed into a downhill right-hander. The bead popped off due to being low on air, dumping all of the remaining air, and I went flying. Dislocated left shoulder.I have never had an MTB tire fail like this in 30 years of riding. The tire is trash at this point. Obviously I had to have run over something really sharp and large, but I was riding this trail twice a week and have never had a flat, let alone one like this.Bottom line - these tires aren't great for puncture resistance. I won't replace the tire with another Vittoria product.

So far so good after 1 year, let's see if it makes it 9 years like my maxxis ardent 2.25
No problems so far. My maxxis ardent finally blistered out after *9* years, about 8 years in use and then 1 year experimenting with other tires like specialized, etc. Specialized tires never lasted more than a year, the maxxis crossmark didn't do well. I put the worn out maxxis ardent on the bike for a final year in the back until it finally ballooned. I should have bought another ardent but it was hard to find so I thought I'd try something different.

Lightweight and great grip
Decided to switch from heavy trail minion dhf tires to these based on my riding and for my purpose. This Victoria on the back with a schwalbe hurricane on the front has made the bike lighter and faster and these things grip phenomenal. The minions were great for grip also but half my riding is done on the streets. In the trails they make it up steep hills impressively and it’s just made the bike more enjoyable for me

Go by the ETRO number on the tire
Mounted in place of 50-559. Purchased the 2.1-in mezcal it measures 52 mm wide as it is marked on the side of the tire. Ran on the front today on a 26-mile dirt and hard pack rail trail at 45 PSI and it was fast and handled well. Easy to install. I have plans to use it on the rear and the brazo on the front for the mixed single track I normally ride. Finally ran on the single track. Let some air out and felt confident over all the roots.

Fast Tire easy to install
I generally ride on a mixture of mud and hard pack and some gravel. I have only been using these tires for a couple of weeks and have notices that my speed on my normal route had increase about one mile an hour. I did install these tire on a rims designed for tubes, but had no problem making them tubeless. I installed them on the rims without having to use any tools.
