Private Equity Laid Bare

Insightful. Well written. Highly recommended.
This book delivers valuable insights and lessons on the PE industry, and does so in a way that is very enjoyable to the reader. The book is packed with details (high-level and low-level) both on real-life scenarios that the author analyzed and on simulated scenarios that he found interesting. You might find here and there a few typos or editing errors, as I presume its one of early versions, yet nothing too serious that you can't figure out for yourself.I highly recommend reading this book.

Private Equity Laid Bare accomplishes the feat of reading like a easily accessible text while simultaneously serving as a highly informative source by Professor Phalippou. Ludovic Phallipou demonstrates his intimate knowledge of the industry with ease, citing historical transactions and firms throughout the text as well as creating easy-to-understand examples with fictional characters.Whether the reader is a college student learning in-depth about the industry for the first time or someone looking to gain more insight into partnership contracts and performance measurement, Private Equity Laid Bare is a must-have text.

Makes a complex topic understandable
Ludovic does a great job explaining complex financial and investment topics in ways that the reader can understand and appreciate. He does it with a lot of humor and insight. If you've ever seen and enjoyed one of his YouTube lectures, you'll appreciate that he brings the same kind of humor and simplicity to this written presentation of dense material.

Mediocre instruction, self-absorbed, and poorly edited
This book is written from the perspective of a skeptical comedian who describes the PE industry. While the skeptics' perspective can add value and the lighthearted storytelling can be entertaining, I would not recommend anyone use this book to gain financial literacy or skills for work in Private Equity. The book is formatted haphazardly, typographical errors are common, and the perspective is ultimately distracting and unprofessional.

Private Equity for Skeptics: PE 101, Successes, Trials and Tribulations
This is a great book on Private Equity with case studies, insightful examples and a fantastic sense of humor.I sat in class, listened and learnt a lot with Ludovic in the summer of 2012 in Oxford. The book closes the loop on what I have missed, forgotten or misunderstood. The book will be essential for practitioners, great for MBAs and fulfilling for the curious minds.

Horrible kindle formatting
This is a review specifically of the kindle version of the book. It’s simply a pdf of the book turned into an ebook. There is no pagination, no ability to change text size — it’s absolutely unreadable on a phone.

PE Exposed
An interesting book on the secrets of the PE industry. Worth reading to understand how the sector does business. Strongly recommend the book.

Confusing to understand (from someone starting out in PE)
Thought this book would be a light read & easy-to-understand, but was quite the opposite where there are too many complicated graphs, too many analogies to Alice in Wonderland (to the point where it gets confusing) & I would classify 'private equity laid bare' that someone coming from the PE industry (like me), who reads a lot of literature in business & has been introduced to many of these concepts in school & whatnot, has trouble following the along the author's train of thought. Just seems like there's too many ideas (many of them intelligent & advanced), just not enough focus. So great material, just not an easy-read.
