Parent Exercises
After a review of the problem and solution, the author spends most of the book examining presence, understanding responsive leadership, and empowering change to reduce teenage anger. He explains that mental health issues or communication patterns that result in anger can be solve by using mindfulness methods he developed. A majority of the book includes “Skill Practice” in which parents identify the situation that is occurring and practices how to react. The book is not about changing how teenagers talk or behave, since the teenagers are in charge of themselves. It is about how parents can control their own reactions and delve into why their internal beliefs create barriers to communications. While the book has a list of references, it really could use an index or a list of skill practices by chapter. The author is a clinical psychologist and executive director of the Institute for Mediation and Psychotherapy, a non-profit organization that focuses on education and training.

I struggle regularly with my teen due to a number of reasons. This book instantly drew me in as a potential resource to help find ways to positively interact with my teenager. Some very good insight and tips. Nicely laid out.

Great book for mindful parenting!
This book has been so helpful in my personal life with my teenager. The parenting exercises are easy to understand and use, and very applicable. It will take a lot of practice and hard work, but reading this book has really opened my mind to how our relationship can be different and has given me a lot of useful tips and tools. I've already given it to some of my friends to read. Definitely recommend for any family that is going through those tough teenage years!

This book has been so helpful for my work with teens and their parents. I've been able to give parents practical exercises and interventions to use at home, and have received really good feedback from the parents...Definitely recommend this book for parents of teenagers and any therapist or clinician working with teens as well.
