Newlec Pneumatic Time Delay Switch

I bought this to replace our existing communal light switch in our building, as its exactly the same as the one that broke. Was easy to install, only took a few minutes, and work perfectly.

I installed this device within a few hours of receipt. The first thing I did was to determine the time delay settings. The screw in the rear of the switch is n=by no means either linear or fine. Some experimenting had to be done to achive the time delay required (30 secs). However, when set, it was stable within a few seconds.When I screwed the switch into place I mistakenly put the two screw covers into place before I tried it. I found that I had screwed to switch to tightly into position and, as a result, the switch would not release. I found it impossible to remove the screw covers andhad to use a drill to extract them. Once the covers were out, I was able to loosen the switch and it worked pefectly.Conclusions:1. The device is adequate for its purpose.2. The screw covers are almost impossible to remove without some sort of tool.3. You cannot change to time delay without removing the switch (and switching manis off!!)4. If I ever need another one, I will look for an electronic version rather than pneumatic.

Easy to fit over existing light switch box . Remember to set the length if timer before installing - it’s so easy and only takes a few attempts to get what you need. Feels reasonably robust and definitely cheaper than having the teenager leave the under stairs cupboard light on every time (d’oh!)

It is “NOT Possible” to wire this Switch to an Existing 2-way lighting circuit, due to the fact the 3 Terminals provided are:Normally Open (NO)Common (COM)Normally “Closed” (NC)Usual 2-Way Connections are:(L1, Common, L2)This is a “Single Contact” push button timer.It is possible to fix several of these switches in a typical Corridor or Staircase scenario and “Extend” the time period the light stays on. I don’t consider this to be 2-way Switching!The Time Delay is ONLY Vaguely Approximate!!I tried the Time on Ten Occasions, I got Ten Different Delay Periods, without changing the screw setting.
