Great big pannier bags for camping or shopping , holds loads of cargo but lets in rain a little

First go all I want to say that this is a well made product - good and sturdy and reasonably priced ... but there is an issue. The length of the panniers are quite long which meant that on every rotation of the pedals my heal would hit the front of the panniers, even when I attached it right to the back of my rack. I'm an average size chap with an average size bike. I have recently been away on a cycling tour with my 4 buddies and I noticed that on all their panniers there is a 45 degree angle to the bottom front edge to allow the foot space to rotate without hitting the pannier. There my be a way to rectify this if I can find a way to move the rack further back but it looks doubtful.
