The recommended age level for these books is 7 - 10; Grades 2-5. My daughter is now in Second Grade. We've been reading these books to her since Kindergarten. As a first grader, she was able to read them independently. I must admit, however, that she is an advanced reader and, I am told, currently reads at a 4th Grade level. As a parent I highly recommend these books. They are perfect for any child who loves magic and fairies--my daughter literally reads a book per afternoon in order to fulfill her reading log homework requirement. It's her favorite part of the day! FYI we buy ours through the Scholastic Reading Club.
