A great book
The story begins so sad when her mom died in a car accident. The story gave you an understanding about Amy's feelings and conflicts she faced while living with her dad in Canada. I loved the adventures with her geese. The ultra light was a fantastic invention.

Surprised by Light Swearing
After watching the movie and thoroughly enjoying it, I purchased the book to add to our church library for the junior section. I thought it would be fun to first read the book and see how closely the movie followed it. I was surprised and dismayed that there were several instances of swearing: you son of a . . .; my G-- for example. I am so thankful that I chose to read the book before placing it in our library. I am carefully whiting out the words that are not suitable for children to read. I have never done this before, but the story is too good to discard.

For young readers only
Having seen this film over thirty times as a teenager, and it is one of my all-time favourites, I was somehow disappointed by this novelization. I am aware that it is aimed at young readers, but many novels classified as youth literature can be enjoyed at any age. Patricia Hermes' book seems addressed to readers aged 8 to 14 years only. Carroll Ballard's "Fly Away Home" is one of those family films that will truly be loved by the whole family, not only children, so I was expecting the novelization to capture the frankness and complexity of the film. I found interesting that Hermes chose to tell the story from young Amy Alden's perspective, but the character's personality is different here, somehow vehement and expressive while Anna Paquin's Amy Alden was rather sullen and hard-to-read. The dialogue is sometimes altered from the original, making conversations sound less natural than they did in the film, since many of the actors' lines were improvised. This added so much to the film's quality and it is lost here. This story has so much potential; the novelization could have been better if the young reader had not been the only reader in the author's mind.I was looking forward to the section on the making of the movie, and while the article is fine albeit succinct, I was hoping for a few colour stills. There are only a few poorly-printed black-and-white headshots of the actors and pictures taken on the set.

Family movie true story teaching geese to migrate
A family friendly classic based in the true story of Bill Lishman of Ontario CANADA using an ultralight airport, teaching geese to migrate to a certain location. Anna Paquin when young —- her acting is delightful

PGR 2YL 2.4Words 9,482
