New Housing Back Cover Case for iPhone 3gs 16gb Black with SIM card tray

This was a fun little project to replace the back cover on a phone that is several years old. I would suggest to others attempting this to replace the battery, buttons, trim ring and Dock Connector at the same time and this can be an almost new phone when you are done.A couple of things to note: The back didn't have the trim rings or speaker grills on it. So on your old phone, you can remove the trim rings from around the camera port easily. The ring around the headphone jack is a bit more of a chore. It is glued in typically and can be removed but be careful not to destroy it. These two items cost about $4 to $5 each if you don't salvage them although they aren't necessary other than for that finished look of the original.The speaker and mic grills are pretty tiny. They are glued in with just sticky goo so if you get them out and place them back into your new phone back, be careful if you glue them in that you don't block the screens with glue. Just dab a bit of super glue on a corner to tack them in.Keep your screws arranged in order and labeled. I use a sheet of paper with each segment of screws circled and labeled with a master diagram. Remember, these screws are different sizes and are really unforgiving if you strip anything. The chrome trim can be a tough one to get out, originally it is glued in but with some scraping with the removal tool, you can get it out. A replacement one is about $6 and may be your best option, it will be that last item to replace that has no scratches on it.Have fun and expect to spend about an hour if this is your first time. The proper tools are necessary so if you do get a battery, make sure it comes with the tool kit. That is a cheap way to get not only your tools but a new battery too for about $6.

Plastic was good quality. One of the screw holes was missing a brass threaded insert, supposed to be 16gb, and it says 32gbs on it.

Nice presentation, everything fits, works fine, if you are going to change the cover, I suggest change also the volume, mute and power buttons.

The quality is very high. The part is identical in every way to the original shell, but installation is VERY challenging. You'll be dealing with very many tiny screws, fragile parts and some tricky assemblies. Takes lots of notes, and keep the parts organized. The process took me about 4 hours and I came close to giving up and throwing the whole phone into the garbage on several occasions. When the phone was finally back together, I was amazed that it was still working. Buy it if you are adventurous and you do not have much to lose.

I just got done swapping the backplate on my 3GS. This is a very involved process since it requires you essentially take the entire phone apart.The shell is identical to the OEM one in every aspect, including the rear labeling, etc. It is of a high quality material and the mounting spots for the screws are reinforced with metal, just like the OEM backplate.If you need yours replaced, don't hesitate to purchase this one

It is a incomplete product. The back arrives with the camera lens cover missing. That piece should be glued and sealed by the manufacturer. Furthermore, that important detail is left out in the description and buyers are left in a loss.

While this housing fits with minor work and exhibits a similar look to the real thing, be warned that it is a KNOCKOFF down to the FAKE bar code shaped smudge and does not share the same quality as an original. Added, the SIM tray did not fit, but the original one will still work.Do not be surprised when you see rough casting burs and milling marks.

It was a new black cover, just as I expected, but I would like to return it. I could not replace it with the cover on the iPhone 3GS, the phone fell apart when I took the cover off.I have purchased another new phone which is on the way to me by July 1st.Thank you.Sincerely,Michael Andrews
