Balboa 54218-Z Spa Control System VS510SZ Value Pack Retrofit Kit

Been having issues from my older sweetwater hot tub. Bought this a month ago and wish I would have purchased sooner. Install went very well and works fantastic. Will heat the tub with the cover off when -20° F with ease, can’t say enough good things about it. Would recommend to anyone!

I purchased this item in January 2020. It came with very simple installation instructions. Being a convertible unit (120VAC/240VAC), it did not come with instructions on how to change from 110 to 220 and vice versa. It came pre-wired for 220 accessories. I had a 110 pump, could not get any help for the manufacturer, and could not get any assistance from the Amazon seller. The manufacturer told me I had to have a professional installer install it. The authorized sales and installers in my area refused to help me because they didn't sell me the unit. The Amazon seller never responded to my requests for assistance, only sending a generic e-mail that they were just a seller, not an installer. As an electronics technician, I had to basically reverse engineer the system without disassembling it to understand the difference in accessory wiring between 110 and 220. Through this process, I fried my pump and had to replace the pump. Due t design differences in the pump, I had to replace plumbing, as well as the filter assembly under my hot tub. I eventually figured it out, and got the unit and my hot tub back in service. Three months later, the heater element failed on me. It took three weeks and numerous complaints to Amazon to even receive a reply from the seller. The seller offered a partial refund for the replacement of the heater element, and I ended up replacing the heater element myself. Now, here we are another five months later, and the entire unit seems to have a mind of its own. The controller now does not operate as designed, and I currently have removed power from my hot tub/spa via turning off the breaker. The controller turns on and off different functions without user input, changes temperature without user input, and does not respond to user input. I have contacted Amazon again about the same issue, and they continue to refer me to the seller. I'm not happy with this item, TAT&TUM (seller), or Amazon.I will not recommend this item to my worst enemy, nor would I recommend trying to utilize Amazon's misguidance and misrouting system to attempt to make a warranty claim with a seller who does not respond to consumer complaints or issues.

Easy to install but size is different so we had to raise it up and have it sit on a make shift ledge. Have had it for 3 months now with no issues. Much cheaper than paying a repair man to come out.

The display is much easier to read than the outgoing model. Everything is updated in this system. Glad I bought it and installed myself.If you’re going to do it, it’s not hard, but you must have logic and respect electricity.God bless you and your family.

The most important thing to do before you buy a spa pack is research, research, research. Once I knew exactly what pump motors and accessories I would be running and the voltage required, it just a matter of matching up with a spa pack that would run them. Also looking for a top side that I though would be simple enough to operate. From the moment I threw the breaker on to power it up I knew I made the right choice, sure its only been running a couple of days as of now but I do not expect Balboa to let me down.

I was unable to locate any consumer level support from company. Does not work with one speed pumps P1 even though it says it does. Does not work with variable speed balboa pumps and ozone. Keeps saying low flow error or dry error even though variable speed pump P1 is at maximum setting. Terrible product. Do not buy.Tried to wire variable speed pump directly into 240v bypassing controller. Still times out after a few minutes even if you bypass controller. Variable speed pump is unable to act always on circulation pump due to time out.

Worked great ! Converted a older laguna bay hot tub over to this ! Just had to do a little plumbing work and wiring in the pumps! Works great !

The product sent to me was used, although the listing was for a new product. I immediately returned it since I paid for a new product.
