very small berries but good
These have good flavor but the berries are very very small. Use 4 cans to make a 9 inch deep dish pie. Another way to use these that we found is very good is to make a custard base - My neighbor used Birds Custard which is also available from Amazon. Used 3 Tblsp each custard powder and sugar and 3 c milk cook that pour into baked crust, let it set up then add sugar and cornstarch to your goose berries (we did 1 can but 2 will be used next time) and cook to thicken them and pour over the set custard. Very good! Yes, I will most likely purchase again as this is the only way I have found to get gooseberries in AZ. They are good and not so sugary that you can not either use as is or sweeten to your own taste.okay here is the recipe from Oregon Fruit website - Gee we should have thought to go there first!! Following this recipe exactly is perfect. Pie is fabulous. I supplied the gooseberries, a Neighbor made it and all the rest of us neighbors loved it. Great job Oregon!Ingredients1 Cup sugar3 Tablespoons cornstarch1/8 Teaspoon salt2 Cans Oregon Specialty Fruit Gooseberries, drained, reserve one cup of the syrup1 Tablespoon butterPastry for 9-inch pieInstructionsIN A SAUCEPAN, STIR TOGETHER THE RESERVE GOOSEBERRY SYRUP, CORNSTARCH, SALT AND HALF OF THE SUGAR.COOK OVER MEDIUM HEAT, STRRING UNTIL THICKEND.REMOVE FROM HEAT. GENTLY STIR IN THE REMAINING SUGAR, BUTTER AND THE DRAINED GOOSEBERRIES.POUR INTO PASTRY LINED PIE PLATE.ADD TOP CRUST OR LATTICE TOP, AND THEN SEAL THE EDGES.BAKE 15 MINUTES AT 425 DEGREES F, FINISH BAKING AT 350 DEGREES F FOR 20 TO 30 MINUTES OR UNTIL GOLDEN BROWN.

Love these gooseberries
I'm a huge fan of this particular brand of gooseberries. I used to be able to get them at our local grocery store but haven't been able to find them in years. Decided to google them one day and imagine my joy at finding them online. They're not cheap by any means ($50 for a case of 8) but considering that they are available AND shipped directly to my door - worth every single penny. My daughter and I just enjoyed our first homemade gooseberry pie in years. So delicious! Will order more when we're done with this pack.

Exactly what I needed
I was scrambling to find gooseberries to make my dad's favorite pie for Father's Day (I had ordered one from a local diner the week before and they waited to tell me the day before I was to pick it up that they couldn't make it). Searched high and low and found this gem. Even better was the very quick delivery. I think it arrived about 15 hours after I ordered them. They were packaged well and in great condition. Pie was a success!!

Pretty good for canned grapes
These taste pretty good for canned grapes. i prefer to drain the can and put these in the fridge for a while before eating for best taste. we also use these in jello as well. Price is a little high in my opinion, but product is very good.

Who knew gooseberries are so good?!?
As thanks for some much-needed and much-appreciated help, I offered to make a neighbor his favorite pie. It was gooseberry. Huh?? I didn't even know what they are. And since they're not in season this time of year in my part of the world, and probably not available in my area even when they ARE in season, I sought out canned ones. Rebelling at the cost per can when buying the 2 cans needed for a pie, I opted for the 8-pack. And boy am I glad I did. My husband hadn't tasted gooseberry pie since he was about 9, but had fond memories of it. So after fulfilling the neighbor's wish, I made one for us as well, following the Oregon Fruit recipe online. Oh man, it is SO GOOD!!!! When this first box is gone, I will definitely order more. I am a convert! And my aged husband (we're both nearing (ack!) 70) is delighted too.

Satisfied my gooseberry pie fans.....
I have not reviewed a food item before but this is a unique on. My parents are from the mid-west of German and Irish decent. They grew up harvesting gooseberries along the rail road tracks and having mom make them into pies. For them, it reminds them of their childhood.I purchased this to make a surprise gooseberry pie for my dads birthday. I had no idea with light syrup would be a problem or if the berries on the mark relative to what they ate as kids.It took a few tries to get a decent pie, but when I did, I gave it to my dad and he loved it.I don't tell them where I buy them so they have to as me for more. It's fun to tease them about wanting to make more pies.
